I must agree, it seems like there are hipster-aspects to the Geek (reference Ms. Faith Korpi and Mr. Jason Seifer much), but oh well.
I didn’t like 5. At all. Well, it’s kind of unfair to say that because it evoked a lot of emotion in me, and it was good story-wise, but I just hated Umbridge so much, I can’t bare to read it again now that I’m not a 15-year-old douche anymore…
I get all the 80s references on Psych, too! (Even more so than people I know who should also get them, considering they were older than a toddler in the 80s.)

I miss Galaxies… I met my husband there. Though we may be miles apart, we will always have the shuttleport on Dantooine. Books are always better, except when they aren’t. Prisoner of Azkaban will always be the best. I actually believe I could, in fact, care less about the rest of them. I don’t know if I’m old enough to get the 80s references, but when your parents are stuck in the 70s until 1997, you get to know a few things about the 80s 😉

you’re right. i am not worthy. i am supremely in love with the banter. i will observe from my overproduced sideline soccer chair with my head under the big floppy hat. no not that one, the other one. the one with the bird on it. ON it; a real bird. that’s flyn. not flynn, flyn as in fly’n. but that’s too trendy. so i will be here. with flyn. my coffee is cold. intentionally. thank you that is all. (btw, you inspire me that i can be super brief and engaged as well. – tx for that.) sadly i have not read harry potter – too trendy for me. i stick with really old books: kate chopin (the awakening) and FSF, and the way of heming, parked dorothy, etc. for now i will say “ciao, that’s what other people say.”

My music is not trendy. I haven’t liked anything written after the late 70s. But as for the rest, you are spot-on.
I totally grew up on music from the 70’s (and before).. was a total Zep-head and idolized Page and his contributions not just as a guitarist but as a music producer as well. (The opening drums on Levee… UGH! Amazing sound.)

The Geek was a Wookie in Galaxies, so he of course enjoyed the related expansion allowing him to travel to his home planet of Kashyyyk, however while he endured the CU upgrade, the NGE upgrade simply took away the allure of being a Droid Manufacturer and going through the trials to become a Jedi.

PS and OotP sometimes trade places, depending on how tolerant I’m feeling of capattack Harry, but the first and last are non-negotiable.

Also, I understand your trepidation for not wanting to work for the Thought Police, but there aren’t a lot of jobs in Oceania at the moment (War is down, unemployment is up) and its better than working at the ministry of Truth, since I value and crave honesty in all aspects of his life.

Ok, about OotP and PoA, yes I like OotP better even though they are pretty close. But really, Dolores Umbridge in the book was an amazing character, and you start getting further into the darker side of the series. Dumbledore is discredited and sent away, MofMagic doesn’t believe Harry, everything is really starting to unravel.
Granted its not as much of a down note / dark side as Half Blood Prince (So is Empire your fav Wars flick as well?) but its still pretty good. Really I just have to reiterate, its all about Umbridge. I loved her character in the book. The movie might have done her more justice had it been 5 hours long to do all of the interesting things they cut from the book.
I think my biggest problem with OotP was how Harry acted like a gigantic douche through most of the story. I get that he had reasons for it (not just because of all the drama he was surrounded by, but hormonally as well…what 15 year old boy isn’t an asshole, really?), but it made for a tedious reading experience. That was the first time I’d gone to a midnight release and started reading as soon as I got home. I almost regretted it. The best parts were Umbridge and the twins. HBP, on the other hand, was a blast and if I only have time to re-read one (instead of the whole series), that’s usually the one I pick. It was also the biggest travesty as far as film adaptations go, and the movie that made my dad tell me he was never going to watch another Harry Potter movie with me ever again.
Yes, Empire is my favourite SW episode. Has been since I was tiny.
You know, you really hit the nail on the head with just saying Harry acted like a douche, but that’s really my biggest complaint about the last 4 Potter books. I mean it started in Goblet of Fire where Harry got even more famous than he already was and started acting a tool to his real friends. It indeed continued when he would shun the people who were always around him saying “No I gotta do everything on my own.” Lighten up Harry, if it wasn’t for Hermoine you wouldn’t have made it past book 2. The other shock to come around the same time was Hermoine and Ron hooking up. What? Its not her and Harry? Until you remember how big of a douche Harry is and of course she goes after Ron because he will treat her with respect. Indeed the only part of all the books that was unbelievable was that at the end of Book 7 Harry wasn’t a drunk. When you think about it, Voldemorts dead and Harry’s like, ok, now what? Somewhat like the travesty of a football player whose greatest accomplishment is a State Title in High School, one would expect Harry to live in the past when he was the ‘greatest’ Wizard in the world but then everyone moves on and forgets about what he did.
A drunk Harry comes down the ramp, hair even messier than before, shirt half tucked in, tie askew screaming “I’m Harry Potter Dammit.”
And I agree that HBP was a huge travesty in movie form, it needed to be a 2 part film or 5 hours long. In fact, I think the best adaptation of Book to Film was Goblet, not because of accuracy but because that movie was actually fairly entertaining as opposed to its book counter-part.
